WILLIAMSBURG POTTERY
This saltglaze pottery is fired to an attractive stoneware gray with cobalt blue decorations in designs reflecting 18th century use. Saltglaze gets its name from the early method of manufacture. Salt was thrown into the kiln when flames were at their hottest. The resulting sodium vapor covered each piece of pottery with a glaze. Saltglaze fragments from thousands of these items have been excavated in the Williamsburg area, facilitating these reproductions. These pieces are lead free, microwavable and dishwasher safe.
