This beautiful reproduction sundial compass, made entirely of brass, was made in England and Germany in the middle 1700's. It was a very useful item in early America as a timepiece and functional compass. Actual size is 1-3/4" diameter. These also make very good corporate gifts. Logo engraving is available.

LEWIS & CLARK COMPASS
Before beginning the daunting task of mapping the Louisiana
Purchase, Meriwether Lewis visited Philadelphia to be trained by America's
foremost surveyor, Andrew Ellicott. He also consulted with Ellicott on the
surveying equipment need for the expedition. One of the items purchased was this
pocket compass by Whitney. It is one of the few pieces to have survived the
journey. After the expedition returned to St. Louis, it was purchased by William
Clark.
This reproduction is entirely manufactured and assembled in America.
The box is solid mahogany, all the fittings are solid brass. The degree ring is
hand silvered for the flat finish all surveying instruments have to reduce
glare. The needle, as in the original compass, has a nicely turned and jeweled
brass hub for the best movement.
